EMI materials

Many electronic devices in a confined space can have the effect that devices or individual components interfere with each other – electromagnetic interference (EMI) occurs. To avoid this and create electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), so-called EMC materials can be used.

These reflect or absorb electromagnetic waves and can create equipotential bonding to protect the sensitive electronic components.

EMI shielding tapes
To avoid unwanted interference in electronic equipment, it is common to use shielding tapes made of copper foil or aluminium. They are easy and fast to apply, oxidation-resistant, flame-retardant according to UL 510 and, in addition to very high conductivity, also have excellent corrosion resistance as well as good die-cutting and solderability.

EMI shielding tapes with aluminium foil are used for covering in galvanic processes, for cavity sealing, for sealing pipes and containers in gas-shielded welding, for lining heat and air reflectors and for sealing reaction containers.

EMI shielding tapes with copper foil, on the other hand, are used to shield electromagnetic fields and to dissipate static charges.

Absorber
EMI absorbers are designed for the frequency range from a few hundred megahertz to several gigahertz. They attenuate electromagnetic fields and prevent spurious radiation, crosstalk and oscillations. They are flexible, non-conductive polymer films that are provided with specific metal particles.

Absorbers can be used to suppress spurious radiation in electronic devices and reduce interference. For example, electronic components such as ICs and entire assemblies can be protected from interfering electromagnetic radiation by applying a suitable absorber film to the surface.
